About Us
Our Goals
Thank you for caring about our goals for the weekend. As described in our history below, these efforts are focused at developing an atmosphere to strengthen and encourage young singles (over thirteen) and married couples.
Each year we strive to connect youths who share a common goal of pleasing God (II Cor. 5:9) by offering instruction in love, "from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith" (I Tim. 1:5).
We recognize that we all have times of discouragement, and we seek this weekend as a time to "fan the flame" among us - to help each other walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.
We aim to worship God in spirit and in truth, and we hope you will join us this weekend. Download our Flyer and help spread the word to others. We look forward to seeing you.
If you have any questions, we'd love to hear from you - let us know!
Brief History of the Devo
In the summer of 2002 about 15 middle and high school students gathered in the Arnold’s basement for a weekend designed to encourage and uplift them using God’s Word. Danny Allen of Woodbury, Tennessee presented lessons under the theme of “Being Strong in the Lord.”
The following summer (2003) the group grew to around 25 students. Wes Brown of West Blocton, Alabama presented a series of lessons called “He Shall Direct Thy Paths.” The students spent hours dedicated to prayer and singing bringing them closer together in the name of the Lord.
The group grew in 2004 to include more college students as well as more out of town attendees. Jim Deason of Murfreesboro, Tennessee presented lessons on “Leaders using their influence for God.”
In 2005 a few of the local college students had a vision to make the annual youth weekend better known, so that’s exactly what they did. They gathered various addresses and email addresses to aid in sending out flyers. Over 70 students from 6 different states ages 16-27 attended the weekend at Blackman High School. Wilson Adams of White House, Tennessee spoke about motivation, leadership, strength, and courage. That year the weekend became known as Devo in the ‘Boro.
Devo in the ‘Boro 2006 attracted over 90 young people from all different walks of life. They came from Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Kansas, West Virginia, Mississippi, and Virginia. From the youngest in their early teens to young married couples, everyone was able to benefit from a series of lessons on “Shining Light in the Darkness” delivered by Wes Brown of West Blocton, Alabama.
Kevin Clark of Birmingham, AL brought powerful life changing lessons in 2007. “Know Thy Enemy” was a topic that applied to every age. The largest group yet of young adults gathered on Friday night for a singing and an extremely uplifting day on Saturday.
